February in Review // in photos

February’s the shortest month of the year, and, boy, it definitely flew by! We’re 59 days into 2014, and I’m so excited that I have 59 photos to show for it. I love that this has becoming a habit. Somedays it takes a little longer to set up or find what I want to shoot, but I’ve definitely been on a roll! Stay up-to-date every day as I post on my Facebook page

Here’s my month in review:

Despite the bitter cold, I occasionally was brave enough to venture outside and even stopped by the beach one afternoon…

We celebrated Lutheran Schools Week…

I celebrated the Month of Love with my best friend…

I shared Red Diamonds

I worked a local Mother/Son Bowling Event…

I made art… and made a personal commitment to make more in the months to come…

Some plants budded while others died…

I experimented with light and shadows…

I captured the everyday moments (despite being sick throughout the month)…

On to Month Three!

Love, Abi

January in Review // in photos

Happy February! Can you believe that we’re already one month into the new year. One of my goals for this year has been to create one photo every day, following prompts provided by Capture Your 365. And, so far, so good! Some days have been a challenge, but I am so pleased that I’ve stuck with it so far. See my daily posts (and the stories behind the photos below) on my Facebook page.

So… what happened around here in January?

We unpacked and settled into our new home and discovered some of the house’s quirks…

My husband and I served the Lord in our respective calls and volunteer jobs…

We enjoyed time with family downstate (and witnessed a proposal!)…

The weather outside was cold, snowy, and icy…

Yet, I was still able to find a little bit of color in a white and gray world…

My favorite jewelry and outfits made me happy…

I ate clementines…

I found beauty in the things in my home…

And I spent some time in reflection: my past, my self-image, my year ahead…

And, now, on to February!

Leah // senior

It was a day I had greatly anticipated for years: Leah’s senior session. Actually, it was a two-day session (one day straight hair, the other day au naturel). Two glorious days of photographing one of my best friends, my sister.

I could go on and on about how wonderful she is. We are really nothing alike, but I’d say we get along rather well. Her outgoing, loving personality is beautiful. She’s a softball player and a dancer, and she loves people of all ages, especially kids.

We did this session when she still lived in St. Johns, but with a recent family move, she’s finishing up high school in Munising in the Upper Peninsula. Leah plans to go to Concordia University Ann Arbor next fall, to major in Family Life and become a Child Life Specialist. I love you, girl!

Jason + Elizabeth // engaged

Liz and Jason went to the same high school, but it wasn’t till later on that they saw each other as “something more.” On their first date, Liz realized just how much they had in common and how easy it was to talk to him. The rest, I suppose, was history. They find special ways to surprise each other and support each other through thick and thin. Jason loves being able to come to her at the end of a long day, and it was after a busy work season during their first year together that Liz first knew that she could spend forever with him.

I met these two at Nichols Arboretum in Ann Arbor for their engagement session, and we swung by the Law Quad and —of course— Michigan Stadium (where Jason proposed). I am so psyched to photograph their wedding next August!

“He accepts me for who I am, even with all the weirdness.
He is there for me no matter what, and he has my back.”
Liz, about why she fell in love with Jason

“We both want the exact same things in life
(except a cat, I don’t want a cat 🙂 ).”
Jason, about why he fell in love with Liz

Liz and Jason are Michigan football fans, so the Stadium was naturally where Jason chose to propose.

“He was nervous but what he said was wonderful. He pointed out our football seats and said we committed to Michigan football together, we should commit to each other forever.” – Liz

Congratulations on your engagement, Jason and Liz!

Kyle + Tasha // wedding

Photographing Kyle and Tasha’s wedding was a true delight. I had photographed the groom’s sister’s wedding last summer, so it was neat seeing familiar faces in their family members. Tasha and Kyle were married at St. John Lutheran in New Boston, Michigan, with a reception at the beautiful Plymouth Manor. I loved all the little creative details sprinkled throughout the day. And, let me just say, Tasha, you were a gorgeous bride!

May God bless your journey as husband and wife, Krzyskes!

and to shower that person with reasons,
that is the ultimate happiness.”

P.S. Don’t forget to check out their engagement session, too!
